Ballet Under The Stars 2009
Dance, in my opinion, is the most beautiful form of art yet. It engages not just the senses, but also the soul within. It evokes the most innate feelings that we never knew we had. Different people interpret a piece of dance differently and relate to it in their own personal ways. Be it an audience, or a performer, once you experience that electrifying feeling that dance gives you, you would do anything to relive that moment. You don't even need to know how to dance to bask in the joy of it all. I for one, should know that best ;) Every movement, every expression, every touch, tells you a story. The art of executing an ardous move with such ease. It is almost...spellbinding.
Today marks my experience at Ballet Under The Stars or BUTS for the 4th year running. I should say it's one of the best shows yet, albeit all the uncomfortable sqeezing due to the overwhelming crowd. Shan's, Joy's and Phoebe's item were really awesome, =D Solo's are amazing, even though you're the only one on stage, the pressence is so overwhelming you literally fill up the whole stage.
The actual show was just breath taking. Intricate movements and endless pirouettes, sky high leaps and jaw dropping lifts. By the way, i learnt a couple of new ballet terms today. Teehee. "paddling" is my favourite partnering move where the male holds the female's waist while she goes on to do a millllion turns en pointe. & I really like corp de ballet!! The synchronization is just unbelieveable!! & their foot steps are so light on stage, such soft movements. Man! I wished I took ballet =/
& Professional dancers have bodies that are TO-DIE-FOR. The guys' boddies are just 0.0 & the ladies... are extremely lean and slim!! This body is proof of the hard work that they put in everyday. Sighs.. I wished I took ballet =/
The last item was the POP! premiere and i guess it was the highlight of the night. It injected humor into ballet, with tunes like "Kiss" & "walking on broken glass" IS STILL STUCK IN MY HEAD. You know that irritating feeling where you have something in your head that you can't get rid of? Yes, gets on your nerves. I really enjoyed my pinic and ballet under the stars today =D I hope I can continue going back every year even when i have children heehee!
